Willowdale is a mature well established community in the former City of North York which is now part of the City of Toronto. Willowdale can be found north of Highway 401, east of Bathurst street, west of Bayview Avenue and overlaps Newtonbrook to the north (just north of Finch Avenue). Willowdale is served by great shopping, schools, restaurants, parks and recreational facilities.
The Willowdale neighbourhood is home to the North York Civic Centre, adjacent to Mel Lastman Square west of Yonge, which has a world-class aquatic centre, a public library, the Toronto Centre for the Arts theatre complex, an amphitheatre, and reflecting pool and in wintertime an outdoor skating rink, the Art Gallery of North York, and lots more to do and explore.
The Willowdale area is a mix of single family homes, high rise condominiums buildings and condominium townhouses. The single family homes, consisting of 2 storey homes, bungalows, 1.5 storey homes and split level homes were built between 1919 and the late 1950’s and were mostly Edwardian and Tudor style houses. The high density developments are concentrated along Yonge Street. Starting in the 1990’s many homes in the area were torn down and replaced with large luxury homes.
In the Willowdale neighbourhood there is housing for every budget. There are the large luxury homes for those who are looking to move up, there are the original style homes for the mid range including those buying their first house and also there are the condominiums which appeal to the first time buyers and those who are scaling down or downsizing.
Willowdale is easily accessible for both motorists and pedestrians. Motorists have access to Highway 401 via Yonge Street and via Bayview, which also provides access into downtown. Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) riders have excellent bus service along Sheppard and Finch connecting to the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line, and Bayview connecting to the Sheppard Rapid Transit line, east to Don Mills. At the Downsview subway station, transit riders can transfer to York Region Transit's Viva express routes to Vaughan, passing through York University. York University is easily accessible via Steeles Ave, and University of Toronto and Ryerson University are easily accessible via the Yonge Street subway. At the Finch subway station, transit riders can transfer to York Region Transit's Viva express routes serving Richmond Hill, Markham and Thornhill.
Willowdale has come along way since the 1920’s. The neighbourhood is a vibrant in demand community that has the perfect balance of urban living and tranquil greenspaces.
